ABOUT JOEL HARRIS

For more than 15 years, I have been in purchasing and estimating while employed in various residential and commercial oriented positions. I have always been somewhat of a bargain hunter as well. My father-in-law has always told me that you can always get something for less if you are willing to take the time to \"bicker,\" as he terms it. That is how I began to negotiate. My parents always said that I would negotiate everything. Staying up later, staying outside longer, and playing with my friends longer. In my professional career, that advice has translated into being a excellent negotiator. I always felt that if I could get people to trust me, then that would allow us to develop a good relationship. That\'s how I always start a new relationship with a trade partner. It is built on trust. If they can trust me or feel comfortable around me, then it is much easier for us to do business. That also applies with my relationships with project managers. It makes it much easier for us to bridge the gap between purchasing and construction. I am aspiring to become a purchasing or procurement manager and then possibly a director of operations. That is one of my primary goals for my career path-Career Highlights: Negotiated several local and national volume based rebates. Assisting to close 1400 homes in one year. Saving a builder eight hundred thousand dollars in a span of two years through value engineering. Being placed on a database training team to train all other divisions in the company. Building a Timberline Database from scratch for a builder-
