Joel Bowdan brings more than 30 years of process related experience in the water, wastewater, reuse, and industrial markets to join a great group of strong water and wastewater professionals at Hazen and Sawyer. As of November 2025, Joel has taken on the role of West Region Pump Lead and will help continue to develop pumping projects across the west. He will continue to leverage his multi-discipline leadership and project management skills to help deliver complex projects to Hazen and Sawyer\'s growing list of clients in the west. Joel Bowdan is a registered professional civil engineer in the states of CA and MI with over 30 years of experience in the planning and design of water and wastewater infrastructure facilities and treatment systems. Mr. Bowdan is a Senior Associate at Hazen and Sawyer in San Diego, CA. His experience includes: pumping and piping systems, water storage structures, groundwater supply and treatment, brackish water desalination (NF and RO membranes), electrodialysis reversal (EDR), ion exchange (IX), small secondary and tertiary wastewater treatment design, solids handling, and other process related design and facility start-up.Mr. Bowdan obtained his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, MI. He has been a member of AMTA, AWWA, and SWMOA, and is an active member of WateReuse Association.
