Lead the global Risk Management function for all Dole Food Company operations including insurance placement and claims management. Develop and implement the global strategy to reduce loss, improve operational performance and safety, comply with legal regulations, and protect the company’s assets. Consistently manage the cost and coverage of insurance programs including property, casualty, marine, aviation, cyber, management liability, and self-insured work comp programs in seven states. Manage complex property and casualty claims and direct the company’s third-party administrator to constantly improve work-comp claim handling through directed medical care and optimal utilization of legal resources and alternative dispute resolution. Meet with senior business leaders in operations and finance to assess risk and implement solutions to mitigate loss in the areas of employee safety, transportation, asset management, and contract management. Improve the performance of Dole’s captive insurance company by expanding insurance coverage and driving loss prevention investments. Oversee the administration of all insurance and claims implications including budgeting, invoicing, allocation, accruals, and audits, and manage all external resources including brokers, third-party administrators, legal counsel, and risk management information system vendors.Key Accomplishments- Mitigated more than of insurance premium increases anticipated in the hard-insurance market by aggressively marketing Dole’s strengths, leveraging long-term relationships with insurers, and by optimizing insurance retentions and captive coverage- Reduced work-comp claim frequency and cost by expanding the directed medical care program and by supplying Employee Safety with greater insight to claim trends and root causes of injury.
