My day to day tasks directly relating to the HSQE Rail manager role are;• Execute the scope of the Management Systems.• Support senior management in the development and reporting on HSQE objectives.• Undertaken monitoring and measuring of HSQE objectives.• Handle and address candidate queries and concerns and any work safe reports.• Record and investigate accidents and incidents to a satisfactory conclusion.• Create and issue important HSQE briefing information. Create and undertake Toolbox Talks.• Investigate breaches of the Sentinel Scheme Rules.• Undertake site audits• Participate in HSQE forums and identify best practice and innovation.Since 2020, I have been directly mentoring, training and upskilling the Sentinel Co-ordinator and Rail compliance team ensuring that no-one person is a single point of failure in the company and sharing my industry knowledge and understanding to a team that can competently share the workload and therefore allow the company to grow and the rail compliance team to become more efficient and agile. While I am still accountable for them, some of the shared responsibilities now undertaken by the team include;• Undertake On Call reviews and process non-conformities.• Prepare and lead internal and external audits.• Undertake document and record control.• Deploy, execute and communicate company policies, manuals and processes.• Support senior management in the development of competency standards.• Identify, report and/or address potential non-conformities.• Devise and monitor the conclusion of Corrective Action Plans.• Manage and validate change control.• Vehicle/Fleet Management. As with all safety and compliance managers, I am happiest when things are boring and predictable, though I have been tested a couple of times by curveballs, and have the proven ability to remain calm, cool and collected during any incident and work systematically and methodically through it to achieve the desired outcome.
