ABOUT JOE THOMPSON
As the Group Science and Regulatory Affairs Director at Imperial Brands PLC, I lead the development of science that substantiates vaping products as potentially reduced risk relative to smoking. I am accountable for gaining approval of products from regulatory authorities globally and developing strategies to help move smokers away from smoking to something better. I also oversee research programmes and external scientific & regulatory affairs strategy in support of our Next Generation Products, including vaping, oral nicotine, and heated tobacco products. Additionally, I am responsible for leading a large multi-disciplined teams spread over 8 countries globally, ensuring Product Compliance in all markets, product assessment and approval for manufacture and sale, and accountable for product risk assessment and recall decisions related to EU GPSR. I have over 25 years of experience in the tobacco industry, with a strong background in toxicology and regulatory affairs. I hold a European Registered Toxicologist certification issued by the British Toxicology Society and a Fellow Royal Society of Medicine certification. My mission is to contribute to the advancement of public health through the development and regulation of safer alternatives to smoking.
