WORK HISTORY
Head of Software Engineering for Metadata, Audiences and Publishing @BBC
Overview: Metadata, Audiences and Publishing (MAP) consists of around 200 engineering folks dedicated to providing the workflows, tools, systems and services that power the BBC\'s online, TV and mobile app audience experiences. Together we provide: • the ability for our users to authenticate, share details about themselves and manage their relationship with the applications the BBC provide, • the tools that allow the BBC’s content creators to author and describe their work, • the systems that support the flow of that content onto the many web and app platforms the BBC’s provide, • services that allow our users to interact with that content in ever more personalised ways. and • the tools for us to understand our users so we can increase the value we provide to them. I lead a team of Engineering Managers and Senior Principal Software Engineers and we manage an area comprising around 30 teams spanning locations including Cardiff, Glasgow, London, Newcastle and Salford. Highlights: As part of the senior leadership team for engineering across Technology and Product group I have: • recruited 15+ Engineering Managers, • helped establish and run software engineer and team leader hiring programmes which cover 75% of our external hires, and • worked to implement a holistic approach to early careers training across BBC Software Engineering.
