ABOUT JOE PHILLEO
I grew up in Indiana with teachers who changed my life trajectory—from Mrs. Johnson who taught me how to read to Mrs. Eberly who fought hard to get me placed in advanced math classes. Those experiences set in motion my mission: to make school exceptional for every student.In high school I built to crowdsource AP textbook notes. With great teachers behind me, I earned a scholarship to study Applied Mathematics at USC, where I worked on education projects—then dropped out to join Joe Lonsdale at 8VC. I was inspired to see how ambitious teams and great ideas could transform big systems like healthcare, defense, and government.In 2020, I brought together top Silicon Valley technologists to start Edia, the leading AI Platform for K-12. Today, 200+ districts—including Fulton County, Denver, Cincinnati, and San Francisco—use Edia to boost math proficiency, cut chronic absenteeism, and run MTSS on a unified, modern platform.
