ABOUT JOE NATHANIEL TOLIVER

Joe Toliver is an executive with over 25 years of experience in nonprofit leadership, strategic planning, fundraising (including capital campaigns), grant management, business development, public speaking, and community engagement.Throughout his career, Mr. Toliver has held a variety of positions in nationally affiliated nonprofit organizations. His roles frequently involved fostering positive relationships, developing advocacy strategies, and creating pathways for lasting impact.Notably, Mr. Toliver served as the Vice President of Philanthropy and Communications at the Urban League of Broward County, where he oversaw marketing, public relations, and community initiatives. He also led fundraising efforts and was part of the team that successfully executed the Urban League\'s $8.5 million capital campaign to build a new square foot Community Empowerment Center.Prior to his tenure at the Urban League, Joe Toliver was the Director of Grants Administration at the United Way of Broward County. In this capacity, he managed the Edward Byrne/JAG Memorial grant program and its award processes, aiding grantees in achieving financial sustainability and program oversight. This grant provided $1 million annually and received an additional $1 million in federal stimulus funds in 2009 to further support local organizations, service agencies, and government initiatives in Broward County, Florida. The funding focused on enhancing prevention, intervention, and substance abuse treatment programs throughout the area. During his time at the United Way, Mr. Toliver also held the position of Director of Community Mobilization and Empowerment, where he concentrated on volunteer recruitment, coalition building, and training programs.Mr. Toliver is passionate about the belief that supporting nonprofits cultivates a sustainable public health approach that empowers individuals, families, and communities.Currently, Joe serves as a coach at the Edyth Bush Institute for Philanthropy & Nonprofit Leadership at Rollins College and is the Executive Director of the Fort Lauderdale Community Development Corporation.In addition to his professional pursuits, Joe Toliver takes pride in being a devoted father to his daughter and identifies as a philanthropist, activist, community organizer, and social entrepreneur.
