About Joe Nash
Joe Nash has over 45 years’ experience in environmental regulatory and energy policy. His broad-based experience is unique: he has both technical experience as a manager and policy analyst at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the US Naval Oceanographic Office and as an executive of several consulting firms. He has extensive experience in the implementation of numerous environmental laws and regulations that include developing position/policy/briefing papers, briefing senior executives, and directing the development of regulations. He also has extensive contract management experience at EPA and DOE and as an executive of several consulting firms. Mr. Nash was also President of the College of William and Mary\'s Advisory Board for the Thomas Jefferson Program in Public Policy. He has written six articles on Virginia’s energy plan. Mr. Nash has recently worked with Virginia state officials to look at the energy and environmental policy implications of hydraulic fracturing to extract natural gas from Tidewater Virginia’s Taylorsville Basin. Mr. Nash was an Oceanographer for the US Naval Oceanographic Office. He conducted shipboard anti-submarine warfare research that included sampling and analyzing chemical, physical and biological parameters in the Atlantic Ocean. Mr. Nash was appointed by Governor McDonnell to the Virginia State Water Control Board for a four-year term (20••••16). While a member of the Board he has gained extensive experience in nuclear Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), coal ash pond closure, groundwater management, application and use of biosolids, hydraulic fracturing for oil and gas, permitting of sewage treatment plants, storm water systems and general permitting under the Clean Water Act and Virginia Water Control Law. Mr. Nash wrote 20 issue papers on energy and the environmental for Govenor-elect Youngkin’s campaign team. These papers covered such topics as: nuclear energy, Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), Chesapeake Bay, Virginia’ electric grid, gas pipelines, Virginia Clean Economy Act, plan for affordable energy and environmental policy. Mr. Nash was appointed by Govenor Youngkin to the Virginia Offshore Wind Development Authority for a four-year term (20••••28).
