About Joe McLean
I graduated cum laude from the University of Washington in June of 2011, studying electrical engineering. The major focus of my studies was a combination of sustainable energy, large-scale power systems, and electric drives and motors. In the summer of 2010, I did an internship for a leading engineering consulting company, Power Engineers, doing arc flash studies for natural gas compressor stations. This included complex analysis of existing one-line diagrams and site conditions to create electrical schematics of the station using EasyPower software. I used this electrical model to do a short circuit analysis of the station, which I used to perform coordination and arc flash studies for our client. After graduating I worked for General Electric in their substations department, specifically on projects for Pacific Gas and Electric. The focus of my career was redesigning the protection and controls systems for many of PG & E\'s substations. This would include designing complex protection schemes involving multifunction protective relays and thousands of connections and wiring. 6 months after working for GE, I was reviewing other engineer\'s work, training my coworkers and leading teams of engineers to complete complex design projects. Currently I work for Bloom Energy as an applications engineer for solid oxide fuel cell installation and integration. I manage the technical creation of engineering drawings for integrating our fuel cells into large corporate campuses, server farms, retail locations and industrial factories. In addition to this, I manage the supply chain of all of the switchboards and telemetry equipment that are needed for our installations. Specialties: Power Engineering, Substation Design, Generation, Transmission and Distribution, Bentley Microstation, Fuel Cells, Sustainable Energy, Renewable Energy Integration, Electrical Power Engineering, Short Circuit Analysis, Arc Flash Studies, Mission Critical Applications
