About Joe Gilmore

Over the course of my 20+ year career as a technology expert, I have focused on mitigating technology and cyber risks, designing and implementing robust security programs, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting a security-conscious culture. Additionally, I’ve worked with executives and company boards to help them navigate and balance the costs and risks of information security. I have worked on various committees and working groups within the financial services sector and government agencies. This will come to no surprise to those who know me that outside of the office I still maintain a passion and involvement in the cybersecurity community. You can also find me on the golf course, fly fishing an alpine lake, or spending time with my family in the mountains. Feel free to reach out to me to talk all things security or even which fly pattern to tie on this weekend. If you’ve made it this far the least I can do is fill you in a little on my origin story…. I began my journey as a middle school-er with a hand-me-down Sun Ultra 60 running Solaris who would spend his free time running channels on IRC and writing ipchains rules in an effort to defend against myself in my own little capture the flag (CTF) scenario where I played both red and blue team. Later in life, I caught my first break as a hacker when I was 14 when I released a handful of hacks for some notable online multiplayer games that effectively changed the course of online gaming (They are still around today and yes you have heard of them). This landed me in a little bit of hot water but also gave me the opportunity to realize that my skill-set could turn into a career, and one that could have a positive impact on the world. This is also why I have a sincere care in our future generations of cyber and technology professionals.
