About Joseph Coffey
Highly motivated, seasoned professional with a unique blend of Policing, Corrections, Military, Emotional Wellness and Cross Generational Leadership. Joe is the founder and president of BlueAid Consulting, Inc, a provider of highly regarded and recognized Mental Health, Crisis De-escalation and Resiliency Training. Retiring from Rhode Island’s Warwick Police Department in 2016, he last served as an effective and versatile Captain assigned to the Patrol Division with key responsibilities and successes in Mentoring, Emergency Management, Community Engagement and Strategic Planning. Previously, Joe had worked nine years in state and private corrections management. He also served thirteen years in the Army and Reserve, last serving as a distinguished instructor at the Rhode Island Military Academy. With a lifetime engaged in communities, agencies, and individuals experiencing crises, Joe knows developing strong relationships is the foundation to successful outcomes. Acting on this experiences and belief, Joe successfully collaborates with community stakeholders/partners, for example, developing and implementing a Crisis Intervention Team, Community Diversion Clinician position, both first in Rhode Island policing. Joe has also served repeatedly as the police Incident Commander during several community traumatic events and full-scale training exercises, resulting in wide recognition for his proficiency in crisis management and impressive multi-agency and mission-driven teamwork. In addition, Joe served as a Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy adjunct instructor for seventeen years and presenter at many other academies, universities, and conferences, including: The National Council for Behavioral Health NATCON, Howard University, Brown University, International Association of Chiefs of Police, Maine Police Academy, and Peel, Ontario Regional Police. Joe has effectively testified at Congressional Staff Briefings in Washington and before local legislators in efforts to increase mental health literacy, training, and treatment. Joe has been featured and interviewed extensively by numerous media outlets, including: NBC 10, Providence, Boston Globe, Huffington Post, Scientific American, New England Psychologist. In acknowledgement of these efforts and achievements, Joe has received numerous commendations throughout his public safety career. Some of Joe’s other community involvements include Boy Scouts of America, Special Olympics, and Rotary International. He enjoys group fitness courses, antiquing, and family travel.
