I lived my dream. Now I help others achieve theirs.I spent decades as one of the most prominent & vocal members of the New York City Council & the State Legislature, capping my public career as the council’s Minority Leader, with a long track record of delivering bipartisan results through collaboration and relationship-building.During my ten-year tenure in the City Council, I chaired the committee on Fire & Emergency Management (2017-\'21), overseeing billions of dollars in annual spending and the employees of the FDNY & NYC Office of Emergency Management. I spearheaded legislation on labor matters, environmental regs, government operations, & building safety, including the 2019 update of the NYC fire code, working in conjunction with regulators, trade groups & industry leaders.I also served on the critical Land Use Committee and Zoning Subcommittee, weighing the most challenging real estate development proposals in NYC, as well as served on the council’s Budget Negotiation Team and its committees on Education, Parks, Government Ops & Rules, which approves appointees to several critical boards & commissions. Prior to that, I served in the NY State Assembly between 2012 & 2015, and was the ranking member on the committee on Cities and a member of the committees on Energy, Banks, Housing, Health and Transportation. I also served on the MTA’s Capital Review Board (20••••15) & the NYC Voter Assistance Commission (2012).I was honored to Chair (20••••25) and be a member of the National Forum of Republican Mayors, Council Members & County Leaders, part of the Community Leaders of America, where I worked with a diverse group of elected leaders and corporate partners to develop rational municipal policy. I am also an Adjunct Lecturer of Political Science at CUNY & was a Lindsay Fellow at its Institute of State & Local Governance.As a high-stakes communicator, I\'ve logged over appearances on global news networks, including Fox News, Fox Business, CNN, CNNI, Newsmax, BBC, SkyNews, NY1 & MSNBC. At various times, I\'ve was a spokesman for statewide independent expenditure committees & the NY State Republican Party, a surrogate for the Trump Campaign & the RNC, and a co-chairman of statewide campaigns, including Trump 2016 & Zeldin 2022. My writings are regularly published in the NY Post, and I\'ve been featured and quoted in the Daily News, NY Times, Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, Politico, The Hill, & many more. I wrote two books on the history of my hometown - Staten Island - where I live with my wife Rachel and our two boys, Joe & John.
