ABOUT JODIE FAWL
As public information officer (PIO) at NEMA, I work with all information requests from reporters and the public. I am editor, writer, photographer and designer for the agency\'s newsletter. Trained in Associated Press style, I do not use Oxford commas except on rare occasions when confusion would occur by ommision. I also limit use of articles prior to proper nouns whenever possible. In the event of a disaster where the state\'s Joint Information Center is opened, I serve as Lead PIO and coordinate the state\'s information response to get the right information to the right people at the right time. In 2021, I earned the Master Public Information Officer Designation from the Emergency Management Institute in Emmitsburg, Maryland and my certification as a Type 3 incident management team (IMT) all-hazards PIO was approved by the Homeland Security Policy Group in 2015. I deploy across the state as needed on emergencies and disasters. I am an instructor for the L105 Public Information Basics Course offered by EMI. At the Journal Star, I was a reporter, writer, photographer and coordinator. I sold and edited Business Achievements. The weekly paid section of business announcements grew by more than 500 percent while I was editor. I wrote business, real estate stories, features and Website content.
