ABOUT JODI WINSHIP

I\'m an occupational therapist, educator, and nonprofit leader with a strong background in public service, higher education, and community-based programming.I currently lead Richmond Aging and Engaging, a nonprofit I founded to support older adults and people with disabilities living in subsidized housing. We bring intergenerational arts, wellness, and mobility programs directly into apartment buildings, with a focus on reducing isolation and supporting independence. We also train healthcare students, professionals, and community volunteers to work directly in the communities we serve. Before starting this work, I spent several years as a faculty member in VCU’s Department of Occupational Therapy, where I taught graduate students and led research focused on aging in place and health equity. I continue to teach doctoral students as an adjunct faculty member in VCU’s College of Health Professions. I also previously worked in the federal government, where I focused on regulatory compliance: experience that strengthened my attention to detail, accountability, and systems-level thinking. One of the parts of my work I enjoy most is developing and delivering trainings, and making sure they actually work. Over the years, I’ve led a wide range of training programs, from teaching campaign finance compliance to campaign treasurers, to running hands-on workshops for health professionals and volunteers on rollator repair and fall prevention. I’ve also created online modules for doctoral students focused on leadership, professional development, and interprofessional collaboration. I take pride in designing learning experiences that are practical, engaging, and grounded in the real-world needs of the people we serve. I pair this with a strong focus on program evaluation, using participant feedback, outcome data, and process measures to assess what’s effective, make improvements, and ensure our efforts have real, measurable impact.I hold a PhD in Social and Behavioral Sciences from the VCU School of Public Health. Across every role, academic, nonprofit, and government, I’ve stayed focused on building programs that are useful, equitable, and designed to meet people where they are.
