ABOUT JOCHEN HELLMANN
Jochen Hellmann has returned to the DAAD and is now director of the DAAD branches in Brazil with headquarters in Rio and São Paulo. Between february 2009 and june 2019, he was Secretary General of the Franco-German University. Between 2001 and 2008, Hellmann was Head of the International Department at the University of Hamburg. He was educated at the University of Hamburg (Romance and German Languages and Literature) where he was awarded a PhD in 1991. His main fields of studies are international comparison of university systems, stressing on the European dimension, international mobility, multilingualism, french-german relations, Latin America, university reforms and modernisation of university administration. Jochen Hellmann was Department Head for the promotion of ‘Germany as a destination for research and studying’ at the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) from 1998 to 2001 and Senior Officer for Research Promotion and European mobility programmes in Hamburg from 1993 to 1998. Prior to this, he was officer at the European Liaison Bureau at the University of Hanover and worked as a lecturer for German Language and Literature at Sorbonne University in Paris.
