ABOUT JOCELYN WILLIAMS

I lead teams in education. I learned how to be a teacher among Manurewa teenagers at James Cook High School, moving to tertiary a few years later. At Unitec I taught Communication Studies to Engineering, Business and other students part-time, then full-time Course Coordinator, Programme Leader, and Head of School roles - although I never stopped teaching. At the same time I studied toward higher level qualifications, became a published researcher, led collaborative research, made professional and academic contacts, and developed my leadership skillset. Through these years I also held pro bono leadership roles that shaped me in entirely new but complementary ways: President of the Australian and New Zealand Communication Association (20••••09) and Chair of the Auckland Computers in Homes Steering Group (20••••15). And completing the outstanding Aspire Women\'s Leadership Development Programme in 2016 marked a profound step-change in my leadership practice.[https://wellingtonuni-professional.nz/programme-aspire-womens-leadership-development/].I was Academic Director for ICL Graduate Business School during 20••••20, managing a large lecturing team delivering multiple Business and IT programmes offered 50 weeks a year with timetables active 7 days a week. I was accountable for academic quality, advisory boards (industry and research), research strategy, postgraduate research supervision, PBRF portfolios and staff professional development, and taught and supervised Business masters students. In 2018 not only did the School move from a creditable NZQA Category 2 to Category 1 rating for overall academic quality, but achieved funding through the PBRF research quality evaluation round for the first time in 2018. Quite something for a PTE. And we launched an innovative Master of Business Informatics! A memorable year.I\'m in my element back in the ITP sector - at MIT 20••••21, and now Unitec. At both institutes I\'ve taken up broad academic leadership roles. At MIT I led a team of Academic Partners working to improve learner outcomes by partnering supportively with teaching teams. At Unitec I\'m Manager of Te Puna Ako, again leading a team of Academic Advisers focused on partnership-style support for teaching staff across the institute. I love this work where I can bring to bear my long experience in the practice of well-designed, valid, engaging, and relevant real-world learning, using my instinct for collaboration and my leadership skillset in day to day work.
