The Executive Director of the Association of American Indian Physicians (AAIP) serves as the organization’s chief executive, responsible for advancing its mission to improve the health of American Indian and Alaska Native communities and increase representation in the health professions. This role requires strategic, operational, and relational leadership across all facets of the organization.The Executive Director oversees day-to-day operations, including staff leadership, human resources, financial management, compliance, and organizational systems ensuring efficient and effective operations while implementing policies, evaluating performance, and driving continuous organizational improvement.A central responsibility is maintaining a strong, collaborative partnership with the Board of Directors. The Executive Director supports governance through strategic planning, board development, preparation of materials, and regular reporting on organizational performance and key metrics, while also ensuring continuity amid board transitions.As a membership-driven organization, AAIP the Executive Director strengthens member engagement, recruitment, and retention overseeing the Annual Meeting, Cross-Cultural Medicine Workshop, and student pathway initiatives.The Executive Director also serves as a primary representative of AAIP in external relationships, building and sustaining partnerships across academic institutions, professional associations, government agencies, tribal entities, and funders in the key role of advocacy, collaboration, and elevating AAIP’s national presence.Financial stewardship is critical, including budget development, fiscal oversight, revenue diversification, and long-term sustainability planning. The Executive Director leads fundraising efforts and ensures compliance with financial regulations. Through strategic leadership and partnership, the Executive Director drives AAIP’s growth, impact, and long-term success.
