Bogotá, CO

I lead the project cluster for the North Offshore Gas Caribe region in Colombia, overseeing reservoir-to-surface simulations and conducting economic analyses for offshore gas fields. My role involves integrating reservoir models with well and network facilities, prioritizing field development scenarios, and determining the most viable production strategy. The Uchuva, Copoazu, Buena Suerte, Rubi, Orca, Kronos, Gorgon, and Glaucos fields constitute the clusters, addressing local gas needs and facilitating LNG exports.A notable accomplishment was developing a dual porosity and permeability model for a Pre-Salt triple porosity Gas Condensate reservoir, enhancing history matching and predicting 30 years of production with water flooding and CO2 injection. This project increased reserves by 10%, adding substantial value. I led the evaluation of the \"Gato do Mato\" acquisition, incorporating injection projects with seven new wells and achieving accurate history matching.Collaborating with Shell and Petrobras, I conducted numerical simulations for the Sepia and Atapu fields in Brazil. We introduced an EOR process of CO2 injection, enhancing oil recovery by 3.4%. This project showcased my expertise in numerical simulation, reservoir engineering, and collaborative problem-solving.In the Ichakil field, I developed a Python script for infill drilling opportunities, utilizing a dual-porosity model to predict 15 years of production. Waterflooding pilots in Aullador, Cristalina, Bonanza, and Provincia fields resulted in a 15% increase in oil recovery. I optimized conventional fields like Tibu and Sardinata and worked on naturally fractured reservoirs, employing Discrete Fracture Network mapping for optimal well locations. With 27 years of experience, including PRMS-SPE standards, I bring a deep understanding of reservoir behavior, project management skills, and technical expertise.

ABOUT JOAQUIN BUENAVENTURA

I am a highly accomplished Reservoir Engineer with over 28 years of global experience in reservoir development, subsurface characterization, and field development planning, having contributed to significant projects across the Gulf of Mexico, West Canada, Brazil, Venezuela, and Colombia\'s conventional and unconventional basins. My expertise lies in designing, updating, and executing comprehensive Field Development Plans (FDPs), appraising new opportunities, and delivering production optimization strategies for mature and green fields in some of the world\'s most complex basins. My career includes specialized experience in unconventional reservoirs, particularly in West Canada’s Dawson Creek field and Mexico’s Burgos field, where I successfully led multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative, value-focused solutions. I have strong technical proficiency in classical Reservoir Engineering methods such as Decline Curve Analysis (DCA), Pressure Transient Analysis (PTA), and Material Balance. Additionally, my expertise extends to Full Field Modelling, Sector Modelling, EOS Modelling, Uncertainty Analysis, and sweet spot targeting, enabling precise decision-making in field development scenarios.I also bring substantial experience in working with High-Pressure, High-Temperature (HPHT) and Critical Sour reservoirs, as demonstrated in my work on the Cactus field in the Gulf of Mexico. Through advanced simulation, integrated planning, and reservoir monitoring, I optimized production outcomes while ensuring operational safety. My technical contributions include executing SCAL, PVT, Fingerprinting, and RCAL sampling experiments, ensuring quality control and actionable data analysis. Additionally, I have significant experience in reserves classification and reporting, adhering to PRMS-SPE standards. As a Principal Reservoir Engineer, I prioritize hands-on technical contributions while fostering a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment. My expertise in industry-leading software tools such as INTERSECT, Eclipse, PIPESIM, Val Nav, and Enersight equips me to perform rigorous simulations and analyses, delivering impactful results. My commitment to staying at the forefront of emerging technologies ensures continuous innovation and efficiency in reservoir engineering processes. Furthermore, I actively mentor and develop junior engineers, fostering their technical growth and enhancing team capability. My comprehensive knowledge of NI51-101, COGEH, and PRMS-SPE reserves regulations and Alberta royalty regimes further strengthens my abilities.
