About Joanne Bush

I am a skilled trial lawyer, litigator, negotiator and advisor, with more than 20 years of experience counseling and representing employers in all aspects of employment and traditional labor law. I have successfully represented companies in complex wage and hour class and collective actions as well as employment discrimination, harassment, retaliation, whistleblower, and contract claims, and have won trials involving Federal Railroad Safety Act whistleblower claims. I also have significant experience representing and advising clients in restrictive covenant and trade secret disputes. Working with clients to establish best practices, avoid litigation, and accomplish corporate goals, I provide strategic advice and day-to-day counseling on a variety of employment compliance issues. I draft personnel policies, employment agreements, and severance agreements, conduct internal investigations, and train managers on employment issues. As a traditional labor lawyer, I negotiate collective bargaining agreements and represent employers in labor arbitration, unfair labor practice proceedings, union election and decertification proceedings, and labor litigation, and advise companies regarding corporate campaigns, strike and contingency planning, bargaining strategies, interpreting collective bargaining agreements, and obligations under the National Labor Relations Act. I also regularly advise on and negotiate the labor and employment aspects of multimillion and multibillion dollar corporate transactions, with a particular focus on the energy industry. I was recently recognized by The Legal 500 as a “Next Generation Lawyer” in labor-management relations and in workplace and employment counseling, and I lead the Labor & Employment Practice in Jones Day\'s Houston office.
