ABOUT JOANNE COYSH

I believe that social transformation can happen by creating spaces for people to share knowledge and ideas, collaborate and learn together. An experienced leadership and strategic consultant in third sector and higher education sectors. Passionate about participation, equality and culture change. Collaborative and challenging, I believe in collective and transformative leadership and culture change by facilitating changes in behaviours and mindset. As a consultant, I work with organisations to lead and facilitate both global organisational change processes and smaller strategic planning processes and workshops to review and improve programming practice and create social change. My approach is participatory and collaborative. I bring people together across cultures, contexts and countries to explore and unpack issues together. I also work a lot through questions and an inquiry based approach with groups to promote deeper reflection and learning. A global professional, I have worked in Tanzania, Turkey, South Africa, Ethiopia, Kenya and East Timor and with organisations and partners in many other countries. I work in partnership to facilitate engagement across organisations and countries, bringing together primary stakeholders and volunteers to advising and guiding global leadership teams and Executive Directors. I support teams work with complexity and uncertainty enabling them to work through complex challenges. Facilitating spaces that help groups to seek out new pathways and approaches using creative thinking and sense making. More than one off workshops, I accompany organisational change long term to ensure learnings are put into practice. I work both face to face and remotely using through learning platforms such as Moodle and existing collaboration tools. I have completed professional development courses in action learning, Art of Hosting and Theory U. I have also worked as an academic researcher and lecturer for postgraduates in human rights practice, education, gender and international development practice at Warwick and UCL. In 2012 I completed my PhD, exploring transformative models of human rights education and leadership in community based settings. My book Human Rights and Politics of Knowledge was published in 2017 by Routledge. In practice, I apply my deep knowledge of adult education and transformative pedagogy to designing collaborative and participatory spaces for individual, organisational and social change.
