ABOUT JOANNE MCPHAIL

Legal: Clients of Joanne and her team can expect excellent client service, great communication, timely responses, and a detail-oriented but business-like approach to legal issues. Joanne understands the realities of business ownership and real estate investment as she is a principal/shareholder of a number of private companies, sits on a number of boards and is a real estate investor herself. Areas of Expertise include: general business law advice including asset purchases and sales, share purchases and sales, incorporations, shareholder agreements, commercial leasing, commercial finance transactions, corporate reorganizations, professional corporations, and all areas of real estate, residential and commercial. Joanne has the ability to break down complex issues into easy-to-understand \"plain language\". She explains legal risks but comes at problems with a pragmatic, business person\'s approach. Joanne is certified by the Law Society as a Specialist in Corporate Commercial Law. Leadership: Joanne is the Managing Partner of Barriston Law and also the Chief Innovation Officer and Chair of its Finance Committee. She is responsible for finding the potential in people and processes and developing that potential to its fullest. Community: It\'s a top priority. Joanne is currently serving on the Advisory Board of the Sandbox Centre for Shared Entrepreneurship and Innovation, the Board of Community Builders, and has just finished a three-year term on the Board of Governors for Georgian College. Joanne led the charge at Barriston to become B Corp certified. Barriston is the 1st law firm in Ontario and 3rd in Canada to achieve certification. Joanne has taught courses for both Georgian College and the Simcoe County Board of Education and is a frequent public speaker. She is the previous Chair of the Board of Sandbox. Other volunteer/community roles include Women Presidents Organization (WPO)- Georgian Bay, Business Networking International (President), the Barrie Food Bank (VP), and United Way of Greater Simcoe County (Board Chair), Women Owners Network, Minesing Central School Council (Chair), Barrie North School Council, and the Barrie Royals Basketball Club (Board member, team manager and biggest fan).
