ABOUT JOANA VALGODE FERRO

Joana is an Integrated Spatial Designer at Arup based in London, working within the Integrated Delivery team to lead interdisciplinary collaboration on complex projects across infrastructure, cities and landscapes. With a background in landscape architecture, her work focuses on bridging engineering, design, nature and social participation to deliver regenerative places that enable both people and ecosystems to thrive.With over a decade of international experience, Joana works across scales, from national infrastructure and city masterplans to local placemaking. She leads participatory design processes and develops spatial frameworks that integrate technical expertise, community insight and nature-based design, translating complex challenges into resilient, equitable and regenerative spatial strategies.Alongside her professional role, Joana is the founding member of the Humanitarian Landscape Collective (HLC), a volunteer-based global multidisciplinary research network advocating for Nature-based Solutions (NbS) in humanitarian and development contexts. The initiative explores pathways to mobilise landscape architects and interdisciplinary spatial practitioners in resource-scarce environments.
