ABOUT JOANA CALDEIRA
I am a dynamic and bold scientist working at the Cancer-Regeneration interface. I am also passionate about fundraising and science outreach. I like interactions not only between genes and proteins but also between human beings. I believe that teamwork is the way to go forward and that by creating multidisciplinary networks of people with different skills we can grow stronger. I have recently embarked on an entrepreneurial journey aiming at improving global healthcare and promoting healthy living, particularly of ageing populations. This exciting adventure has already strengthened my toolbox by providing me several fundamental skills such as assertiveness, fearlessness, resilience, focus and optimism. Overall, my greatest ambition is to make a difference in the world, and the only way to achieve it is through 3 key ingredients: passion, creativity and kindness. As my greatest mentor and inspiration once said: “Human enlightenment should be based on science [as a base for solid steps],[…] art [based on imagination] as a way to go further than it is possible to test, and love to be happy.” (Prof Raquel Seruca, 19••••22)
