ABOUT JOAN SCOTT

I left my role as Asst.Principal at Trafford College Group after 30+ years,to start working for myself on various projects.I’ve a wealth of experience as a senior manager across all aspects of further education, managing teams to deliver high quality learning experiences and excellent outcomes.* I’m proud to be working with two great FE colleges- Trafford & Stockport College Group and Stoke on Trent College- both at the heart of their local community, working with young people, adults and employers.* CEO/Chair of the Hair and Beauty Industry Authority -HABIA. Habia is the government recognised Standard Setting Body for the hair, beauty, nails, spa and aesthetic sectors.Habia work with experts to develop National Occupational Standards (NOS) for the sector that are then used as the basis for qualifications. Habia focus on Standards, Education, Excellence and Careers.* Love adult learning -strongly believe in the huge impact of further education on \'People, Productivity and Place\' and that a College functions as a \'dynamic hub at the heart of the community\'.* Committed to raising standards and championing nationally recognised, Ofqual regulated qualifications that meet learner/employer needs. I promote ‘regulated’ qualifications as the gold standard approach across the hair, beauty and spa sector, my approach is ‘Be Qualified not just accredited’ * Champion Apprenticeships -a fantastic way to earn whilst you learn, providing an ideal combination of workplace experience with campus-based training/support, tailored to the needs of the employer and their business.* Extensive experience of the hair, beauty, spa and wellness sector (Practitioner / Employer/ Teacher/ Assessor / Verifier/ Examiner /Author /Manager )* Skills Competitions-passionate about the life-changing benefits of a young persons involvement in Skills Competitions and how they help develop technical excellence and employability skills. I’m proud to chair the (Skills Comp) Steering Group for Greater Manchester Colleges Group and be the NW Champion for the AoC and WS-UK.* Privileged and delighted (.and shocked) to have won the first TES WorldskillsUK Award.
