ABOUT JOAN AMARAL
Joan lived in France and Spain for some time before graduating from Georgetown University in 1988. She then began a career in modern dance choreography and performance which took her to San Francisco in 1992. She was introduced to Zen in 1998 and since that time has devoted her life energy to practicing and upholding the forms and ceremonies of this sublime and subtle way of life. She lived and trained at San Francisco Zen Center and Tassajara Zen Mountain Monastery for much of the next 15 years before moving back to New England to serve as guiding teacher for the Marblehead Zen Center, now Zen Center North Shore in Beverly, MA. She continues to be interested in offering the dharma freely, exploring how Zen will continue to take root in America, and maintaining close contact with native Spanish speakers, incarcerated people, and those pursuing a body-based study of reality.
