About Jo Ya Hsu

I major in TESOL at Brigham Young University of Hawaii and am passionate about instructing second language learners to acquire English for further academic pursuit and career development. I will be graduating in December 2024. I had the opportunity to teach 10+ immigrants from South America for three months in London, England so that they could communicate in the workforce and become financially self-reliant. We provided TPR (Total Physical Response), such as visual images, body language, and clear instructions to help them produce language to build confidence. It results in almost 90% participation. I have worked as an EIL tutor for almost two years at Brigham Young University Hawaii, which consists70 + of countries, and provided English support to students from Asia Rims and Polynesia. Goal setting, constructive feedback on oral presentations, and essay writing are my primary responsibilities, and I received almost 100% satisfaction from my tutees. 80% of students have advanced to their academic courses after studying the English program for a year. I am looking for English teaching opportunities in-person or remotely; my experiences working with international students allow me to provide strategic teaching skills that will benefit the company of the school that I work for in the future.
