ABOUT JO STEELE

I have worked in the environmental consulting sector since 2005, and I am a chartered scientist with a Masters degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Nottingham. Working with clients to provide pragmatic, cost effective solutions with sustainability at the forefront is key to my role.I am currently Business Unit Director for SLR\'s European Earth Sciences teams which include ~180 professionals delivering Soil Science, Hydrology, Hydrogeology and Land Quality & Remediation services to our clients in multiple sectors. As a team leader, I am passionate about supporting growth and my people, guiding them through career development and ensuring they are working in a rewarding and fulfilling role.My main areas of technical expertise are contaminated land investigations related to planning and environmental permitting, environmental due diligence assessment, asbestos in soils, project management, and DQRA (detailed quantitative risk assessment). I have recently been focused on emerging contaminants, in particular the group of man-made forever chemicals: PFAS. I have directed, managed, coordinated and worked on a variety of projects including Phase I (PRA) and II environmental site assessments, controlled waters and human health risk assessment, remediation, Brownfield redevelopment, environmental permitting support, asbestos surveys, compliance auditing, and environmental impact assessments. I have undertaken projects for clients within a wide range of sectors, such as oil and gas, property development, beverage, automotive, aerospace, nuclear and chemicals.
