ABOUT JO GARRITY

With over 25 years of classroom experience and 15 years in school leadership, I support education leaders and practitioners across the UK to deliver meaningful and sustainable school improvement. As a former Acting Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher, I bring a strong, practical understanding of what works in schools and how to improve outcomes for all learners from Early Years to Key Stage 3.My work is informed by the latest educational research and focuses on evidence-based, forward-thinking practice. I specialise in English (reading, writing, and oracy), SEND, EYFS, Music, EAL, Assessment, PSHE and curriculum design.I also design high-quality, engaging learning resources, including award-winning materials, songs and rhymes that are widely used in schools across the UK. These resources support effective teaching, strengthen pupil engagement and make learning memorable.Key Projects & CollaborationsI have led and contributed to projects such as Ready Steady Read Together, Ready Steady Spell, Ready Steady Phonics and Early Years Storysongs, all designed to inspire and elevate learning through creativity. Collaborating with renowned educationalist Pie Corbett, I have written music to accompany stories, developed teaching materials and created the English resource named Sing Us a Story (c).Currently, I consult and create resources for the award-winning Literacy Counts team, helping schools improve outcomes for children.Additional Roles & InterestsBeyond my consultancy work, I am a singer-songwriter and Mental Health First Aider (MHFA England). As someone who loves the outdoors, I am also passionate about outdoor learning and incorporating nature into my teaching practices. I strongly believe that the outdoors plays a vital role in children’s education, fostering well-being, creativity and emotional literacy.
