About Jackson Smith
Passionate about sustainability and environmental policy, I am a William & Mary student double majoring in Biology and Environmental Science & Policy. My work spans research, leadership, and hands-on sustainability initiatives. As a Dining Sustainability Intern for William & Mary, I help manage one of the nation’s largest university compost programs and promote responsible food systems. My National Park Service internship allowed me to engage communities through conservation efforts and guided programs. Additionally, my research at the University of Maryland strengthens my skills in data analysis and ecological studies. As a Dining Sustainability Intern, I organized events to educate the campus community about the importance of local food systems, fostering awareness and engagement in sustainability. I managed a hydroponics wall to grow fresh produce for use in university dining halls, contributing to a sustainable food supply. Additionally, I implemented and oversaw the largest university compost program in the nation, streamlining waste management and promoting environmental responsibility. Collaborating with university vendors, I advocated for sustainable practices, such as reducing food waste and adopting compostable to-go containers, to align with the institution\'s environmental goals.
