About John M. Nunley

I study how labor markets function, from the decisions workers make to the hiring practices used by firms. My goal is to understand the forces that shape opportunity, inequality, and economic mobility.I have more than fifteen years of experience as an applied microeconomist. I design field experiments, construct and analyze large scale datasets, and translate complex empirical findings into clear and useful insights. My research appears in leading journals, including Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, Demography, Labour Economics, Industrial and Labor Relations Review, Contemporary Economic Policy, and B E Journal of Economic Analysis and Policy. My work has also received national attention. It has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Time Magazine, Fortune, NPR’s Hidden Brain, The Conversation, and Wisconsin Public Radio.I am committed to making economic research accessible to a wide audience that includes policymakers, institutions, employers, journalists, and the public. I aim to clarify how labor market forces operate and how they shape individual outcomes and organizational decisions.I welcome new connections. I am open to research collaborations, policy analysis, media engagement, and conversations about labor market dynamics.
