About John Craven-Morris
I am passionate about combining my highest values of efficiency and empathy to provide resiliency-informed and person-centered care to my clients, participate in inclusive and equitable community development, and be a good neighbor to all those around me. Throughout my 7 years in Athens, I have been involved in a number of different domains of life. As a community member and eventual Director of Athens PBJs, I befriended numerous unsheltered and formerly unsheltered individuals who remain some of my best friends today. These friends changed my life and sparked a passion for addressing systemic inequities. These relationships also inspired undergraduate CURO research around local housing insecurity, eventual work with Envision Athens, interest in serving on the Board of the Athens Homeless Coalition, volunteering with Access Point (harm reduction/syringe-service program), and most recently my current job doing Street Outreach at Advantage. At Envision Athens, I got to know Athens and equitable community development in a real and intimate way. Our public work groups covered 14 major domains of life such as public health, arts & culture, public safety, and agriculture/food access. Being a part of these work groups and other Envision-related projects greatly increased my project management skills, communication skills, and connection to leaders across the Athens community. I have also spent a number of years working directly with people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities - my first \"client\" being my younger sister with Down syndrome. Time at Extra Special People, doing behavior therapy and skill acquisition during a summer abroad, and providing in-home caretaking services for a number of clients have enhanced my ability to provide person-centered care. I also love music and spend a considerable amount of my free time getting involved in the local music scene via assisting bands with booking, recording demos, and playing in the church band from time to time.
