ABOUT JUNE M. MCKOY

I am a nationally known expert in Geriatrics and Geriatric Oncology research. I believe access to healthcare is a human right. I prioritize treatment, tailor care, and focus on improving health outcomes for older adults living with cancer. I bring more than 15 years of experience as a Board Certified academic geriatrician, a health services and clinical cancer researcher, a health policy expert, and a mentor and sponsor to students at all stages of the Medicine journey. I founded the Senior Oncology Outcomes Advocacy and Research (SOAR) Program at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center to provide comprehensive cancer care for older adults. In concert, I am a member of the nationally renown Cancer and Aging Research Group (CARG) and a member of the Société Internationale d’Oncologie Gériatrique, underscoring my commitment to advancing geriatric oncology worldwide and energizing the global conversation on cancer and aging. My NIH funded primary research foci are in the areas of pharmacovigilance, adverse cancer drug reactions in older individuals, cancer pharmacoeconomics, comparative effectiveness analyses, HIV and cancer, and cancer survivorship. I draw on my eclectic expertise in medicine, law, ethics, health policy, and public health to drive strategic innovations and advance equitable care, contributing to meaningful change across the healthcare spectrum. Recognized by the White House in 2009 for my expertise in aging-related issues, I have advised national leaders on healthcare reform, sharing insights with then Vice President Joseph Biden and former HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. I have also amplified the \"voices\" of older Americans through invited interviews by local and national media outlets.To be sure, I am on a relentless quest to understand and improve holistically directed cancer care for older adults. I am uniquely positioned to address the intricate challenges of aging and cancer through a comprehensive and compassionate approach and I am profoundly committed to ensuring that one of the most vulnerable populations, our older adults, receive the highest quality care.
