About Jonathan Mboyo Esole

I am a Professor of Mathematics Department of Northeastern University where I also lecture mathematical courses. Sharing my passion of mathematics with students is a very rewarding human experience. I probably learn more from them than they learn from me. My area of research is at the interface of string theory and mathematics. String theory is an attempt to unify all the fundamental interactions of Nature into a unique consistent and elegant theory. Interestingly, this endeavor has produced a lot of new ideas and insights in many different areas of pure mathematics. It has built bridges between communities of scientists that at first look would not have much to talk about. Experimental proofs of string theory have yet to come but as a source of inspiration for mathematics and other areas of physics, it is a success story. I enjoy finding creative solutions to all kind of problems outside of my field of research. I excel in making sophisticated concepts accessible to people not familiar with them.I grow up on 2 continents and studied in 5 different countries. I am fluent in English, French, and Lingala. I smoothly navigate across educational, professional and cultural walls. What is often seen as a barrier becomes an opportunity. Discovering new horizons in sciences, but also understanding the challenges of the society of today and preparing the world of tomorrow is what drives me every day. Outside of my area of research, I am passionate by questions of education, human rights, development and economic exchanges.Specialties: String theory, supersymmetry and supergravity, algebraic geometry, F-theory, topological invariants of singular spaces, elliptically fibered varieties, BRST cohomology, black holes, cosmic strings and other topological defects.
