ABOUT JOE MARIETTA

I\'m an engineer. I got lucky and discovered this fact at an early age. I attended Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology to study Mechanical Engineering. Rose-Hulman is a private science & engineering college in Terre Haute, IN that has been ranked #1 by U.S. News & World Report since My time at Rose taught me about persistence and how to solve problems.I co-oped at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky during my undergraduate education. I was able to experience a world-class manufacturing facility that operates at very high volumes, producing one automobile each minute of the day. This set my fundamental engineering tenet, the greatest design in the world must be manufacturable to be successful.After graduating with my BSME, I took a job as a Design Engineer at Stryker Instruments. For the next 7 years I learned how to truly be an engineer. I started out as a junior level engineer doing product engineering on existing products in the Surgical Navigation field and ended as a Project Engineer responsible for the design & project management of surgical instruments that led to millions in revenue. Along the way, I earned my MSME from Western Michigan University.I left Stryker to pursue an opportunity at IMDS, essentially I was doing the same thing but a little further upstream, at a much smaller company and in a place that my family could experience new things. At IMDS I was able to work more closely with outside customers; in this case they were partners in the development of spinal implants.That increased customer interaction eventually led me to a position in Technical Sales. This was a great experience with a great company, but we needed to move back to Michigan for family reasons.Back in Michigan, I accepted a role at Tekna, an Industrial Design and Engineering consulting firm that also does Contract Manufacturing. We cover all aspects of product development from user research & experience through generating toolable CAD and all the way to launch.
