ABOUT LUIS ALMAZAN

As a seasoned Visual Effects Artist, Senior Compositor, and Digital Artist with dual Mexican-Canadian citizenship, I bring over 15 years of experience to the table, creating visually stunning imagery for high-profile films, independent short films, and a range of digital projects. I\'ve had the privilege of contributing to award-winning films and top-tier series at leading studios, including Image Engine, Rhythm and Hues, Barnstorm VFX, and Zoic Studios. My portfolio features blockbuster projects such as The Revenant, Chappie, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, alongside engaging series like Shadow and Bone and Dune. Across these projects, I’ve developed deep expertise in compositing, live-action CG integration, lighting and rendering and motion design. Parallel to my VFX career, I run a small business, Xinachtli, where I manage all aspects of marketing, social media, and content creation. This includes video editing, product photography and videography, and web design. This entrepreneurial venture has not only honed my creative and technical skills but also deepened my understanding of content strategy and audience engagement. I’m actively expanding my skillset to create commercial and social media content for smaller companies or individuals, eager to explore a wider range of creative opportunities. Whether it’s crafting intricate VFX for a major film or developing dynamic marketing content, I’m driven to deliver exceptional, impactful visual experiences. Beyond digital art, I’m passionate about organic agriculture and sustainable food practices. In addition to studying Culinary Arts in Mexico City, I volunteer at the Maya Garden at UBC and, when in Mexico, at the chinampas in Mexico City, embracing the chance to work with traditional methods and contribute to community-based agriculture.
