Established a CFD-to-1D integration workflow for thermal management system design by modeling compact heat exchangers, pumps, and fans in FLUENT to derive flow resistance and thermal characteristics, enabling data-driven GT-COOL simulations and eliminating the need for early-stage physical prototyping.• Developed a conjugate heat transfer (CHT) CFD simulation framework integrating GT-POWER and FLUENT to assess thermal risks in diesel engines by incorporating detailed modeling of coolant jacket flow and piston oscillating cooling (multiphase flow and dynamic mesh), and coupled with finite element analysis (FEA) to evaluate thermal stresses, which ultimately supported the adoption of steel pistons and the redesign of the valve bridge to enhance durability.• Designed a dual-loop high- and low-temperature cooling system in GT-COOL for a 6-cylinder, 13L, 242 kW two-stage turbocharged diesel engine used in heavy-duty applications, optimized for reliable performance under high-altitude operating conditions.• Performed advanced CFD simulations and experimental tests of engine performance using CONVERGE and FORTE, addressing decarbonized marine propulsion, alternative-fueled powertrains, and high-altitude vehicle operation, and providing insights into combustion strategy refinement and aftertreatment system design.
