My professional life is focused on 4 areas:[1] Engaged, independent director of private company boards: I’ve been a member of 9 fiduciary and 2 advisory boards of PE/VC-backed, family-owned, ESOP, and management owned companies. Actively seeking new board roles[2] CEO Advisor. Peer Group, incubators, and individuals: I listen, referee and offer pearls of wisdom (…sometimes not accepted).[3] Writer - I\'m currently writing a book about my years of accumulated experience \'fixing stuck companies\'. My work was the spawning ground for my trademarked 9Stucks diagnostic methodology. Is your company Stuck? I also write and speak about private company governance.[4] Consultant - I diagnose and fix stuck companies: When companies do not meet expectations, CEOs, investors, family owners and/or Boards often want a ‘fresh pair of eyes’ to examine the business. I dig in and work with the leadership to figure out what’s needed to get the company on a path of renewed growth and profitability (and help with execution if asked).Experience History:Phase I - Foundation Years: Finance, IT, E-Ship. After B-School I worked in Arthur Andersen\'s consulting and audit groups. Became a CPA…learned my way around numbers! IT.designed & installed integrated mfg & fin’l systems. Started my own ‘mini Andersen’ consulting practice.Phase 2 - Transaction Years + more E-Ship: Merged my consulting practice into an M&A/Strategy/Ops Improvement firm…became one of the Managing Directors. Completed deals and consulting projects for private companies, PE firms, and multi-nationals. Phase 3 - Today + Operations: Founded McHughCo (1992). Along the journey, I was the CEO of a multi-plant, PE backed, industrial mfg company and a two time CFO. Networks: If I’m not a fit, I’ll tell you. I collaborate with many professional resources (e.g. search, I-bankers, HR, acute turnaround specialists, etc.).Personal: Married 50 years to my best friend. We have 2 married daughters, three granddaughters and one grandson. Hobbies include masters running, boating, reading, writing.
