About Jim Young
I\'m a professional storyteller. The story of my career began at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. The current chapter is still being written at PrecisionLender, where I am the Director of Content. You might think that commercial banking is a dry, black-and-white world, in which numbers matter - not stories. But in every industry, stories - how we tell them, who we tell them to, when and where we tell them - are the way companies connect with customers and build a strong and lasting bond. That was true when I was an award-winning sportswriter and a website editor, with a Twitter following of more than It was still true when I moved from journalism to content marketing and helped Bronto Software tell its story of marketing automation as it bootstrapped itself into becoming a $200M acquisition of NetSuite. And it remains true at PrecisionLender. Since joining the SaaS cloud-based fintech company, I have: • Brought the company\'s manifesto to life, via the book I co-authored,\"Earn It: Building Your Bank\'s Brand, One Relationship at a Time.\"• Hosted the company\'s podcast,\"The Purposeful Banker,\" which now has 200+ episodes.• Built an on-going content strategy, tied to key problems our customers are trying to solve, as well as new products and features we\'re deploying.• Constructed content journeys that engaged and influenced prospects in every stage of the buying cycle.• Powered the content engine that produced all the pieces in these journeys, including: blogs, infographics, podcasts, book, written and video customer success stories, product collateral, and sales decks. That content has played a central role in our marketing efforts, which have influenced 85% of PrecisionLender’s sales opportunities and 93% of the deals it’s won. In November 2019, PrecisionLender was purchased by Q2 for $510M. The acquisition changed some things, but my work remains based in the lessons I learned back at Columbia. Get the story. Get it right. Tell it well. Put it in front of the right audience. Study the results. Use them to tell better stories the next time around.
