About Jim Garner

My expertise and experience is in improving businesses by optimizing business processes, leveraging intelligent technology investments, and ensuring that at the end of the day the most important needs are met – the needs of the stakeholders – customers, users, leaders, and the organization. It is my belief that good requirements are the building blocks for software projects, without them it is almost impossible to achieve success. Requirements should be readable/understandable by all stakeholders, both business and development resources, and most of all requirements must be testable. If a test cannot be designed for a requirement, then it can never be certain that the requirement is completed. Incomplete and unclear requirements lead to blown deadlines, scope creep and project failure. Defining (and agreeing upon) clear goals and success criteria are the cornerstones to successful project management. Solid solutions start by communicating with customers to understand their needs. I believe that in order to get the most from a project it must start with a clear understanding of the value that project will provide. What will success look like? How will we know we’ve reached our goals?
