Coordinates special event staff in the production and planning of special events throughout the City. Provides professional leadership to staff to include coaching, guidance, and training. Coordinates and directs special event staff in the operation and processes of planning, reviewing, coordinating the applications and permitting for special events. Plans and participates in all after action briefings of special events. Provides feedback for improvement in processes when barriers or issues arise with events. Responds timely and professionally to event organizers, interested parties or others within the community. Remains in frequent contact with City Manager’s Office and City Attorney’s Office for relevant updates. Provides subject matter expertise in the logistics and criteria for unique events such as Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) permit processes, also coordinates external entities such as Florida Fish and Wildlife, Sarasota County and other stakeholders for complex special events. Assures that special events comply with all Police and Fire safety requirements.Understands or has the ability to learn the City’s codes and regulations related to street closures, food trucks, alcohol usage, recycling, permitting and other codes. Understands the City’s ordinances and their impact and relation to special events. Stays current on citywide projects that may impact special events such as Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) in order that events and projects do not conflict.Oversees and maintains all financial records pertaining to revenue collection for permits, applications for special events and rental revenue.Develops and maintains relationships with numerous stakeholders throughout the City to include The Bay, Downtown Improvement District (DID), Business Improvement District (BID) and neighborhood groups. Promotes, markets and manages the use of City Auditorium and the Bayfront Community Center.
