About Jim Williams

Jim continues a noteworthy career that has spanned over 35 years in remarkable architectural design excellence and service to the profession and community. Jim began his architectural career in the Dallas office of the international design firm, Callison/RTKL. For over 25 years Jim served as the National Design Director for Little, an award-winning design firm headquartered in Charlotte, NC. Jim’s leadership and award winning, project experience is primarily in large-scale, mixed-use, community, office and retail projects, both domestic and international. With a background that includes some graphic and industrial design Jim has always been passionate about working in diverse collaboration with creative people across multiple disciplines – believing that every endeavor provides the opportunity to think anew and uncover the unseen and relevant ideas that measurably enhance people’s lives. With a passion for serving the creative fields, Jim advocates for local Charlotte artists as the Vice Chairman and the Director of Development of Goodyear Arts. He previously served on both the AIA Charlotte Executive Board and the AIA North Carolina Executive Board including the position as President with both organizations. He served as an inaugural Board Member for USGBC Charlotte and a ULI Board Member as their Technical Assistance Panel Chairman. Committed to local planning and smart development efforts, Jim has served as the Chairman of the city of Concord, NC’s Historic Preservation Commission. He has taught design as an adjunct Studio Professor for the UNC Charlotte College of Architecture Masters Design Program and served on the school’s professional advisory board. He received his Bachelor of Architecture and Bachelor of Environmental Design from the University of Kansas. Jim keeps an active sketchbook and journal and loves adventure; continuing to solo bike-pack across various parts of the U.S.
