Hired in 1983 to develop new synthetic approaches for high temperature addition-cured polyimides. Employed expert systems to build heuristics for combinatorial synthetic methods for multifunctional monomers- Technical lead for developing polymer microgravity polymers lab and experiments- Developed schemes for lowering cure temp for high temperature polymers- Led industry, university and government project to enhance the performance of erosion coatings on composites and to manufacture build & test rapidly heated composite structures- Hired thru the NASA Engineering Safety Center (NESC) to work on issues related to pressure vessels for both space shuttle and space station, Mars Reconnaissance Observer (MRO) & DAWN spacecraft, and durability concerns for NASA space suit gloves- Recent assignments as materials lead for both large-scale composite dry structures evaluating out-of-autoclave resins and materials lead large scale all-composite cryogenic tanks suitable for launch vehicles and long-duration space depots- Thoroughly enjoys working with younger scientists/engineers by introducing them to our industry partners & developing advanced aerospace composite structures.
