ABOUT JIM SAWALL
Jim Sawall has more than two decades’ experience as a Department of Defense (DoD) communications acquisition expert, with a proven track record managing multi-billion-dollar programs and people, and ensuring emerging tech critical for resilient comms in the modern battlefield gets in the hands of soldiers. Jim has worked in both large- and small-scale organizations, with a knack for creating smaller teams able to accomplish the larger mission.A U.S. Marine veteran who has served in a civilian capacity for the DoD, Jim oversaw two global tactical advanced communication contracts designed to enable redundant and resilient comms in today’s contested and congested battlefield.With proven technical and program expertise, he brings the ideal skills to government-focused contracting firms, not only manage people, but also guide mission-critical programs. Over his 15 years in the U.S. Department of the Army, Jim has held many roles from systems engineer to assistant product manager, rounding out his career as the chief engineer in PdM SATCOM, where he led strategic technological direction for all satellite programs within PdM SATCOM. Since entering the commercial sector in 2022, Jim has held business development and program management roles at global SATCOM and defense contracting firms. Most recently, he has held a dual BD and PM role at Systek, a leading government contracting firm. As the company’s main representative at Aberdeen Proving Ground military installation, which serves as a center for military research and development, testing and evaluation of military material, Jim works closely with government customers as well as prime contractors. He concurrently oversees Systek’s contract with the U.S. Army’s Combat Service Support Very Small Aperture Terminal network, which manages all the U.S. Army’s logistics data globally. As program manager, he manages a highly effective team responsible for all software updates, training and other technical support programs. He also provides input on future enhancements to the network, which has wireless connections, 3,600 satellite terminals and is tied to all U.S. Army bases globally.Jim graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, with an MBA of High-Tech Products / Entrepreneurship, and a B.S. in Engineering Science. He is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, receiving a Navy Achievement Medal and Kuwait Liberation Medal in 1990 and 1991, respectively. He carries a Top Secret U.S. security clearance.
