About Jim Olson
Kids deserve better than \"hand-me-down\" drugs that were developed for adults. I moved to Seattle Children\'s Research Institute because our community of scientists are uniquely poised to create new therapeutics for unmet pediatric medical needs. SCRI scientists have strengths in cellular, genetic, and protein therapeutics. We have launched 17 companies since SCRI was opened 15 years ago (includes Presage, Blaze, and Link, which were spun out of my lab at Fred Hutch). Dozens of clinical trials have been launched based on \"discovered here\" work by SCRI investigators.We are currently securing funds to support 50 postdoctoral scientists from diverse background who will be educated in a biotech-like environment to create novel cellular, genetic, or protein therapeutic candidates that have potential to enter clinical development for pediatric patients. My passion is helping to train the next generation of scientists who will transform pediatric therapeutics to be more effective and very safe.
