About Jim Knicely

For most of my career I have been an Oracle DBA and Developer. I was introduced to Vertica in May of 2011 when I accepted a new position. As an Oracle DBA I was naturally biased to Oracle\'s data warehouse solutions, so I was reluctant at first to even consider an alternative. However, I\'m happy to report that after exploring and experiencing the \"Vertica Advantage\" I\'d become a convert and migrated to the dark side (so my Oracle DBA friends told me). But as my career grew and blossomed, I was introduced in 2022 to yet another exciting technology - a revolutionary category of databases for building mission-critical, cloud native applications called Distributed SQL that provides the best of traditional RDBMSs with cloud native databases!I wanted to stick with the winners in this field, so I cheerfully joined Yugabyte in late February of 2022. I finally get to work with a database (i.e. YugabyteDB) that is resilient to failures and continuously available, horizontally scalable, geographically distributed, SQL and RDBMS feature compatible and hybrid and Multi-cloud ready! No more 3 am calls for me to bring a failed database back up. a database geeks dream come true:)

I’m passionate about staying ahead of industry trends, and I enjoy sharing insights through thought leadership, both internally and in the community.
