About Jim Shi
Dr. Jim Shi is the Leir Chair Professor at the Tuchman School of Management of NJIT. Previously, he hold the Hurlburt Chair Professorship from 2019 through 2022. His research interest focuses on Supply Chain Management (SCM), Financial Technology (FinTech) and Business Data Sciences. Prior to joining with NJIT, Dr. Shi worked at the Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University (GSU). Dr. Shi used to be a visiting professor at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2012, 2018 and 2020, and a visiting professor at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto in 2014. His scholarly research has been recognized with the Outstanding Research Awards from both the college and university levels at NJIT. Recently, Dr. Shi has received IBM Faculty Award to recognize his research on Blockchain Technology. His engagement in teaching has been recognized with a variety of prestigious teaching excellence awards, including the Robert W. Van Houten Award for Teaching Excellence sponsored by the Alumni Association of NJIT, Excellence in Teaching Award from both the college and university levels at NJIT. His teaching excellence has awarded him as the Master Teacher Designation 2022 (the highest teaching recognition at NJIT). Nationally, he has been selected by the Poets & Quants\' list of the 50 Best Undergraduate Professors for 2021. His research interest lies in (1) Supply Chain Management,(2) Blockchain impact on Supply Chain management,(3) Container Shipping and Logistics,(4) interface between Finance and Supply Chain Management,(5) Healthcare Operations,(6) Continuous Manufacturing/Production, etc. His research has been supported by federal and government grants, such as United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), industry (e.g, IBM) and Research foundation (e.g, Leir Foundations). His scholarly articles have been published in a variety of prestigious journals such as Operations Research (OR), Manufacturing & Service Operations Management (MSOM), Production and Operations Management (POMS), Naval Research Logistics (NRL), Transactions, Omega, EJOR, among others. Dr. Jim Shi has been serving for multiple editorial roles. He is currently serving as Associate Editor for Decision Sciences Journal (DSJ), OMEGA, and Data Science and Management (DSM). He also serves as a member of the Editorial Board for Production and Operations Management (POMS), and the International Journal of Business Analytics (IJBAN).
