About Jim Harper

Jim provides businesses and their owners with a broad spectrum of general counsel and transactional law experience. He focuses on real estate transactions, finance, business mergers and acquisitions, and estate and succession planning. He is a partner at Best Best & Krieger LLP. Jim assists clients with a variety of real estate, finance and business matters, including the purchase and sale of tenant-occupied buildings, shopping centers, operating golf course clubs and resort properties, vacant land, and mergers and acquisitions of closely-held businesses. In these various matters, he has structured and negotiated the transactions, as well as documented the transactions and assisted with and coordinated due diligence, third-party contracts and consents, environmental matters, governmental entitlements, title insurance and escrow closings. Jim represents real estate lenders and borrowers in real property secured financing matters, and landlords and tenants in leasing transactions. Jim also assists business owners with succession, trusts, wills and estate planning.Prior to returning to Best Best & Krieger in 2010, Jim was a shareholder at the Redlands law firm of McPeters McAlearney Shimoff & Hatt.Jim received his Juris Doctor, with distinction, from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. During law school, he served as a member and associate editor of the Pacific Law Journal and was awarded membership in the Traynor Honor Society.Jim is a member of Wealth Counsel, a nationwide community of estate planning and business law attorneys dedicated to developing and maintaining the very best estate and business planning practices and technical expertise.Jim has been a member and sponsor of the San Diego Chapter of the AAII, and a founding organizer and co-chair for the Riverside Investor’s Business Daily Meetup Group. Jim is a former National Ski Patrol member. His other interests include spending time with his family, skiing, cycling, and working on complex index option spread trading and futures market profile analysis.
