ABOUT JIM HANSEN

My whole life I have loved solving problems, and I\'m incredibly grateful that I found a career that lets me do that every day. As a geotechnical engineer, I spend my day trying to understand the nature of my client\'s problems, and then come up with creative and cost-effective solutions to solve them. As a true team player, I get the most satisfaction when I can collaborate with my colleagues to provide the best solution possible.After getting my B.S. and M.S. from the University of Illinois, I developed my core geotechnical skills at Shannon & Wilson in Seattle, surrounded by dozens of brilliant engineers and geologists. I learned how to drill a soil boring, design a foundation and retaining wall, stabilize a slope, mitigate liquefaction, and write a report in a way that is clear and concise. I learned how to track scope, schedule, and budget, and how to keep clients happy. At Geosyntec, I have been able to take my hardcore geotechnical skills and consulting experience and apply them in new, creative ways to tackle challenging environmental projects. I get to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams of engineers and scientists to help each other create a thorough product that exceeds our client\'s needs.I\'ve worked on mega projects including floating bridges, tunnel rescue shafts, and re-routed urban rivers. I\'ve also worked on mini projects in residential backyard slopes and one-story building foundations. Whether big or small, my priority is understanding my client\'s needs and solving their problems as efficiently and effectively as possible.
