Grew up in Miami (Florida) and was living in San Diego (California) when the San Ysidro McDonalds active violence incident occurred on July 18, 1984. Having frequented that restaurant on a few occasions prior to that fateful day, this tragedy would serve as a catalyst to a lifelong pursuit of providing and facilitating the best possible emergency medicine within tactical environments.Consequently enlisted in the United States Navy with the specific intent of becoming a hospital corpsman serving within the Fleet Marine Force. Upon completing Basic Training, Naval Hospital Corps School, Field Medical Service School, and numerous special operations courses, accomplished this objective by serving in several United States Marine Corps commands.Specifically served within the Weapons and Field Training Battalion at Camp Pendleton, during combat operations with the 2nd Marine Division in Operation Desert Storm, and as a full-time combat medicine instructor for the 1st Marine Division. After becoming the first Corpsman to ever attend the United States Marine Corps Military Police School and Los Angeles County Sheriff\'s Department\'s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) School, then served as both an operator and medic for the only full-time Marine Corps SWAT team at the time.In the immediate aftermath of the infamous North Hollywood Bank of America takeover robbery and shootout in 1997, two years prior to the incident at Columbine High School, was the first in the United States to conceptualize what\'s now known as the Collaborative Response, Rescue Task Force, or Integrated Response approaches to casualty management within active violence environments. Has been studying, practicing, and teaching critical incident response and tactical medicine for four decades and is consequently considered a subject matter expert on not only the history of events such as the aforementioned but also how to best mitigate them tactically and medically.
